In Norway, legend has it
that the most inventive and hardworking people
come from Sunnmore, birthplace of Ekornes'® founder, Jens E. Ekornes. In
1934, Jens returned from a trip abroad with new
methods of manufacturing mattress spring coils
for the region's growing furniture industry. A
few years later, his new company launched the "Svane" mattress
which became a best seller in Norway. In
1948 Ekornes developed the innovative Swing Bed
and the world's first sofa bed. Today Ekornes® is
Scandinavia's leading furniture manufacturer, exporting
to 40 countries worldwide!
Stressless® was created in 1971 with a patented
mechanism that established a new standard of comfort. In
1991 the PlusTM System was added, which provides
correct neck and lumbar support in all upright
and reclining positions. Two years later
we introduced the sensational Stressless® sofa,
with individually reclining seats.

free-standing ottoman to cradle your
lower legs and feet in the optimum position
for your height. Our ottomans are so

seating. Every Stressless® Recliner
has its own ottoman in the same design
and finish. The new built-in glide
function allows the ottoman to automatically
adjust to your body movements for the
ultimate in comfort.
