Materials & Methods
Materials: Maple dimension,
maple veneer and composite panels best execute
Maine Cottage's clean, crisp designs. These materials
optimize MC's furniture for environments where
significant changes in humidity can cause shrinkage
and swelling problems. Maple and maple veneer
panels also perform as a perfect canvas for painting
in Maine Cottage's 40 luminous colors. Methods: All
Maine Cottage furniture is bench-made. This means
a single artisan produces the components and
assembles them at a bench. This method has important
advantages over furniture manufactured in a production
line. The result is a sense of ownership in the
customer's satisfaction with the product. In
fact, each piece of Maine Cottage goes through
our paint shop with a customer's name on it.
Paint
The special Maine Cottage waterborne formula saves the atmosphere from nasty VOCs and MC's paint shop crew from an unpleasant day on the job. This 100% aliphatic urethane finish delivers superior water resistance, extraordinary depth and vibrancy of color, and excellent elasticity and chip-resistance. It is also highly UV-resistant. The occasional touch-up is simple with our paint. High use flat panel surfaces like dining tables and desks will develop the patina of every day life over time. Clear finish maple or cherry tops available on these items are recommended to our customers who are patina-adverse. Bold and luscious, 40 'brushable' Maine Cottage colors are available by the quart or gallon.
Features
Case Goods (dressers, cabinets, sideboards, armoires, etc.):
Drawers: Super smooth metal drawer glides offer maximum utility
Doors: Single doors are reversible. Standard swing is 'righty' with knob on left and door swinging open to the right. 'Lefty' is the reverse. Cutout Door options include moon, star, or tree. Hinges are european style, self closing hardware offering smooth operation and simple adjustability.
Knobs: Knobs are standard by design style. Any knob may be substituted for another except for the Crescent Handle which is only available on the Ruby Glass Cabinet and Mona Cupboard. Metal knobs are available on all styles at an up charge except where offered standard.
TV Storage: Pocket door hardware with a bridge shelf can be installed on the Island Armoire I and Island Hideaway Top and Bottom to facilitate TV storage. Pocket door hardware allows the doors to be opened and pushed back into the case. Standard adjustable shelves are eliminated and a bridge shelf is substituted to allow for additional storage inside the space. Single hole provided in back of case for wire passage.
Beds:
Hardware: The European-style mechanical fastening system employs round head machine screws held into the bed posts with a metal threaded insert. Sheet metal angle brackets attached to the side rails are easily mounted on the machine screws and secured by tightening down the screws.
Slat System & Center Support: Bedding is supported by four slats pegged into the side rails. Queen and king beds are supplied with a center support extending from the headboard to the footboard.
Footboard Option: Low profile 'stubby' footboards can be substituted for standard sizes to accommodate special installations at no extra charge.
Headboards: Headboard only installations combine with a typical metal bed frame height of 7" to accept up to 20" of bedding height. Most residential customers are best served by choosing our styles as complete beds. Headboard only products are not convertible to complete beds and also require attachment to the wall for best results. (Note: Circle Furniture does not attach anything to our customers' walls.)
Bed Mattresses & Boxsprings: Our beds accommodate up to 16" of bedding height. Too high can be unattractive. Many combinations of a foundation and a mattress can be used to achieve an excellent comfort level at this height including mattress only with extra slats, mattress with a bunkie board (a 2 ½" high platform without springs that substitutes for a box spring), or any combination of mattress and boxspring with a maximum height of 16".
Trundles: Our trundle beds are designed to accept mattresses up to 6" high with custom length and width dimensions by style. These solid bottom trundles wheel on heavy duty casters underneath our beds though the center support needs to be removed from queen or king beds to complete the trick. Trundle mattresses sold separately.
Desks
Drawers: Super smooth metal drawer glides offer maximum utility. Keyboard drawer fronts flop down for comfortable access to keyboard.
Dining Tables
Extension Tables: Tables offered with extension function use high-grade wood extension mechanism, center-fitting leaves connected with wood pins, and detachable center leg.
Wall Furnishings
Our mirrors are supplied with heavy duty picture hanging wire. Please note Circle Furniture does not attach anything to our customers' wall(s).
Product Care
Maine Cottage painted furniture is finished with two coats of an advanced environmentally friendly, water-based aliphatic urethane. Mild dish soap is recommended for cleaning up after spills, just as you would clean woodwork. If a mild abrasive is needed, baking soda toothpaste works well when applied with a soft damp cloth.
