A
new addition to our website at Circle Furniture will be this rendering
of thoughts and observations by me, Peggy Burns, “The Queen Bee” at
Circle Furniture.
You may be wondering why I have such an illustrious title
and I can assure you that it’s not because I’m a member of royalty,
but rather a self-appointed title befitting my position here at Circle. I
appointed myself Queen about a dozen years ago because, quite frankly, I
wore so many hats and handled so many different tasks, that “Ultimate
Schlepper”
did not seem as fitting.
Working in a family business can be wonderful and crazy
at the same time. Harold was already President and wouldn’t give it
up; Richard was Vice-President and probably would, but I didn’t want
to play second fiddle to the President, so I annointed myself the Queen Bee.
It has stuck, and now I am forever stuck with it. I have thought of giving
it up over the years, but after passing out so many cards to vendors at Trade
Shows I’m come to realize that it’s how I stand out in this business.
Believe it or not, I am basically a very shy person and like to blend in,
not stand out if you will.
So anyway, that is my title at Circle Furniture, and it
means I do everything; I buy the furniture, carry it, sell it, clean it,
and love it. I am partial to emptying the trash (never know what treasures
you will find in there) and de-cluttering, except in my office. I am almost
at the point of sending a video in to Oprah to
see if she can work some of her magic with that organizier she has on sometimes. I
find myself often jealous of Oprah; she has all those people at her disposal;
designers, trainers, personal chefs and authors. Wouldn’t it be so
grand to have them all at our beck and call? Instead we have had to
rely on magazines like Domino (which is now defunct) to give us our decorating
tips. I loved reading how I could decorate my home for so little $$$ as long
as I was a little crafty and patient. Of course it’s nice to visualize
yourself actually doing these projects but they are just pipe dreams for
most of us. I mean, really, a hot glue gun in some people’s hands???????????
One of my favorite past-times is “watching” the
food channel, not actually carrying through on any of the recipes. Who doesn’t
love Giada on Everyday
Italian spewing the words Parmigianino Reggianno, melts in your mouth,
calls out for a meatball sub. I dream of having a home and kitchen like Barefoot
Contessa, who has so many friends over for dinner with such ease and
delicious food. My personal favorite, and you all need to watch this one,
is Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade. She
is the absolute best for entertainment; from her add a can of mushroom soup
to whip up a delicious meal, all the time looking gorgeous in the kitchen.
She outdoes everyone because she always has a special “cocktail” to
go with every meal… and you will die with her Tablescapes, again you
need to be crafty.
Ok, I did get a little off track here, Oprah can do that
to you - good thing it’s on at the end of the day.
I think one of the great things happening, or will happen
in this bizarre place in time we find ourselves in right now, is that we
are going to become “doers” instead of “watchers”.
We are going to be our own architects of dreams. We are can-do people,
we just need a kick to get going. Here’s my pledge; I’m going
to make something for dinner tonight, instead of just watching! I’ll
start with Semi-Homemade first. I think I can, I think I can…….
