September Buzz
So
here we are at the end of September,
the ‘dog
days of summer’, when
the weather flips back and
forth like crazy. Seriously,
wasn’t it 40’ a
few weeks ago and then we got
the heat and humidity of New
Orleans. Well, after
being up all night, flipping
the channels and seeing the
Red Sox lose over and over
again I can see that I was
right on about the ‘dog
days’. Dog days were “popularly
believed to be an evil time
when the seas boiled, wine
turned sour, Quinto raged in
anger, dogs grew mad, and all
creatures became languid, causing
to man burning fevers, hysterics,
and phrensies" according
to Brady’s Clavis Calendarium,
1813.I’m thinking this
can be the only reason for
their strange behavior this
past month, no need to psych
it out any further, blame it
on the weather.
Ok, I’ll admit I’m
a fair weather fan of baseball,
but I root for the home team
and love it when they win.
I flipped from channel to channel
all night and this was the
big story EVERWHERE, the Red
Sox loss, not much about the
winners. The worst September
record in baseball history,
man those dogs were raging.
What was especially painful
was the clip of the Rays win
and in the huddle that traitor
dog DAMON kept showing up.
Go ahead kick us hard while
we are down, and then some. You
know we can’t root for
the Yankees so the best we
can do is pray that they lose
(or win in this case), but
there is always Philly. My
son lives in Philly and his
girlfriend thinks the city
has it all over Boston, boy
is she delusional (but I will
root for her team). I am a
kind and generous person sometimes.
I fear this dialogue will go
on for weeks, the crying, the
blaming, airwaves will be on
fire. Let’s move
on to football, we have so
much to talk about with the
Patriots new season. I mean
what is more important than
Tom Brady’s hair? Apparently
not much at the moment because
it is so wildly discussed and,
for the record, I love it long…Go
Tom. Seriously, we are so lucky
to live in this town, Red Sox.
Patriots, Celtics, Bruins (Stanley
Cup 2011, which we had hoped
to trot out at the play-offs!)
I was walking around the city
the other day and heard so
many sports conversations on
street corners, construction
sites, line at the deli, I
was wowed by how well-versed
people are on this whole Red
Sox thing, the depth and passion
was amazing. What do
people do when they don’t
have all these major league
teams in their city? Maybe
they talk politics? That
must be it and they must study
it really hard and are very
well-versed, maybe we should
dive into it a bit more and
study politics!
Yes and maybe
hell will freeze over in Boston
before we give up on our AP
classes on sports!
Hell Freezes Over is
a live album by
the Eagles, released
in 1994. The album contains
four new studio tracks and
eleven tracks recorded live
for an MTV special.
It went to #1 on the Billboard
album chart upon its release
where it stayed for two weeks…..
Red
Sox nation…there’s
always next year.
